It’s Bijoux – No it’s Dinner!

I feel it’s time for a bit of a rant. Last night I went to a new restaurant, my hopes were high. This place only seats about 26 people. The restaurant is very well designed and beautifully done.
I ordered Yellow Stripe Beet Salad with chives, roasted garlic vinaigrette & parmesan mousse (mousse was the size of a pea) which cost $7 (there were no stripes!) and the Shrimp Remoulade, Poached gulf white shrimp in its classic sauce & grilled Treviso lettuce for $13. At the top of the menu is says – Small Plate Salads & Entrées. Well, when the say small plates, they mean it. These plates were 5″ square. Am I meant to feel like Alice in Wonderland? I am not a big eater, especially at dinner, but give me a break. When you leave a restaurant wanting to drive thru In & Out Burger, there is a problem! I also had a few glasses of wine and am up to $50 with tip. So we aked them to bring us some bread; after two baskets we decided that was enough.
This seems to be a new trend in the restaurant industry – small plates. I happen to love going the restaurants, sitting at the bar and ordering several appetizers for a meal. Usually, there are “happy hour” prices to do this. Maybe I am a just a cheapskate.
I’m hungry!
