Mississippi Sin Dip

Mississippi Sin Dip is a beloved Southern recipe that's as comforting as it is delicious. This creamy, cheesy, and savory dip is the perfect party appetizer, game-day snack, or any occasion.

While the exact origins of this dip are a bit hazy, it's widely believed to have originated in Mississippi sometime in the mid-20th century. It quickly gained popularity, particularly among Mississippi State University football fans who embraced it as a tailgate staple. The intriguing name "Mississippi Sin Dip" is thought to stem from its rich, indulgent nature, making it a truly sinful treat.

Ingredients

1 cup sour cream

½ cup mayonnaise

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

2½ cups shredded cheddar, divided

1 cup ham, chopped

2 teaspoons garlic powder

10 dashes Frank's Red Hot, or more to taste

5 dashes Worcestershire sauce

kosher salt

Freshly ground black pepper

1 loaf French bread, optional

Sliced green onions, for garnish

Crackers, for serving

Directions

1Preheat oven to 350º F.

In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, cream cheese, 2 cups cheddar, ham, garlic powder, hot sauce, and Worcestershire until fully mixed, then season with salt and pepper.


Option 1

1Hollow out the inside of the bread with a serrated knife and slice hollowed bread into cubes. Scoop dip into loaf and sprinkle with remaining ½ cup cheddar. Wrap loaf in aluminum foil and bake until dip is warmed through and bread crusty, 28 to 30 minutes.

Option 2

1Put this mixture in a small casserole dish and bake for 25 minutes.

2Garnish with green onions and serve with bread pieces and/or crackers.
