As a kid, I loved malted milk chocolate shakes. These Malt Ball Brownies are all that you love about a chocolate malt milkshake, wrapped up in a brownie. They are chewy, crunchy and chocolatey!

  • Prep: 5 mins
  • Cook: 30 mins
  • Yields: Makes 2 dozen

Ingredients

1 package fudge brownie mix (13 x 9-inch pan size)

1⅓ cups malted milk balls, chopped and divided

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons milk

1⁄4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

1Prepare brownie batter according to package direction. Stir in 1 cup malted milk balls. Spread into a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

2Bake at 350° F for 30 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.

3In a small saucepan, melt chocolate chips and butter over low heat.

4Remove from heat. Stir in milk and vanilla. Spread over brownies. Sprinkle with the remaining malted milk balls. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes or until set.

When I was a kid, Whoppers were my favorite boxed theater candy at Saturday movie matinees. Combining them with brownies might overload my neural pleasure centers.

I feel sorry that kids don’t get that experience any more. No adults, you just got dropped off into a dark theater of screaming kids and amp yourself up on sugar. It was huge fun.
