Suspend your disbelief and get out your slow cooker! These Grape Jelly Meatballs use frozen meatballs (I used IKEA meatballs), Concord grape jelly, and chili sauce (or BBQ sauce). It's a southern recipe and is sometimes called hillbilly meatballs. I promise you they are absolutely delicious!

  • Prep: 5 mins
  • Cook: 3 hrs
  • Yields: 12 Servings

Ingredients

2 x 12 ounce bottles Heinz Chili Sauce or BBQ Sauce

32 ounce jar grape jelly

3 teaspoons Dijon mustard

cayenne pepper, to taste

3 -5 pounds frozen cocktail meatballs

Directions

1Combine first four ingredients in a medium saucepan and heat until warm.

2Dump meatballs in crockpot and pour sauce over. Cook on low 3-4 hours.

Yes, this is a retro recipe. I am not from the South, but I know this recipe. I’ve been to enough potlucks and luncheons to know these meatballs practically fly out of a crockpot when served.. People love them. Never any leftovers!

I love it when you do these retro recipes. Grape jelly meatballs weren’t a part of my childhood, but since I’ve lived in the South EVERYbody here tells me how prevalent they were. I guess I’ll have to try them. Just for research, of course. 🙂
