Day 9 – My Trip to Japan
Eric and I went off on our own. We found the Sengakuji Temple, which is the grave site of the 47 Samuri who avenged their master by beheading his enemy. This is the story we heard about at Kabuki yesterday and so it was particularly resonant to visit their graves at this temple.
We then wandered around a very untouristy, residential area and found this tiny little restaurant. We could only order tonkatsu because that is the only thing I could say. There were no plastic replicas of the menu anywhere to be seen!
There is a NY Yankees / Mariners game on in the background!
We passed these signs for “Things on a stick!” We refrained from partaking in these delicacies. Chicken breast cartilage on a stick! Yum!
We then stumbled our way into a beer hall in Ginza.
Next we were taken to another magnificant 10 course meal in our own private tatami room.
This was a delicious dumpling with crab inside.
This is Yuba, which is Tofu skin…. It has a texture that’s similar to mozzarella cheese.
This is the third time we have been presented Ayu, which is a sweetfish. They are very difficult to eat, but very mild tasting.
