Baked Pears

I adore pears. One of the best presents one can receive is a box of Harry & David pears. They are to die for! Not, that Iwas a hinting for someone to send me a box…….
A great way to use pears that aren’t quite ripe yet, is to bake them. There are many ways to do this, but I think, one of the best ways is with Gorgonzola or blue cheese and nuts. Serve this with a chilled dessert wine that will delight your guests.
Baked Pears
Serves 4
2 large pears, such as Bartlett, Bosc, or Anjou
2 Tbs butter, softened
1/2 cup walnut pieces, toasted
3 Tbs brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbs butter, melted
1/3 cup crumbled Gorgonzola or blue cheese
Cut the pears in half and core. If needed, slice about 1/4 inch from rounded sides to make pears sit flat in baking dish.
Bake in a buttered baking dish (9 x 13-inches) at 450˚F, for 25 minutes or until soft and lightly browned.
Meanwhile, combine walnuts, brown sugar and melted butter in a small bowl, stirring to coat nuts. Top pear halves with walnut mixture and cheese. Broil pears 5 1/2 inches from heat until cheese melts.
