I got this Sesame Mayonnaise recipe from my cousin-in-law's sister Julianne. It reminds me a lot of my Asparagus with Wasabi Mayonnaise. It's a mayo-based dressing (which is rather obvious!) with a burst of sesame flavor. I think this recipe was adapted from Julee Rosso & Sheila Lukins, The Silver Palate Cookbook, 1982. Anyway, it's really delicious and different. You can serve it with crudité or pita chips.
Prep: 5 mins
Yields: Makes about 3½ cups
Ingredients
3 cups Hellmann’s Mayonnaise
2½ tablespoons rice vinegar
2½ tablespoons soy sauce
¼ cup dark sesame oil
Szechuan-style hot chili oil, optional
Directions
1Whisk all ingredients together. Season with drops of chili oil, and taste for salt and pepper. Refrigerate until ready to use.
I happened to have all of these ingredients on hand, and since I knew I was going to get dinner on the table a little later than usual, I decided to make this as an appetizer. It was delicious. I served with raw carrots rather than asparagus. I cut the recipe in half as there are only two of us, and it was the perfect amount.
