Chicken Paprikash

Chicken Paprikash is a Hungarian dish made with chicken, onions, paprika, and sour cream. It is a popular dish in Hungary and is often served with noodles or dumplings.
The dish is thought to have originated in the southern part of Hungary, where paprika is grown. Paprika is a key ingredient in and it gives the sauce its characteristic flavor.
It’s quick and easy to make, which is perfect for a busy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 yellow onion, minced

2 cloves garlic, minced

3 roma tomatoes, minced

3 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 2 inch pieces

¼ cup paprika

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

2 cups chicken broth

3 tablespoons flour

1 cup sour cream

¼ cup heavy whipping cream

Directions

1In a large pot, heat your vegetable oil over medium high heat. Sauté the onion until they soften and just begin to color.

2Add in your garlic and tomatoes and sauté for another 2-3 minutes. Add in your chicken and paprika, salt, and pepper, cook until all the chicken is nearly cooked through, about 5-8 minutes.

3Add in your chicken broth and bring to a rolling boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 4-5 minutes.


4Whisk in your flour, be sure no clumps form. Continue simmering until the liquid has begun to thicken. Add in your sour cream and heavy whipping cream. Continue to simmer and stir periodically for about 10 minutes.

5Serve over noodles.
