Cuisine: Cookies
Disney Molasses Crackle Cookies
I don't normally bake, but I decided these cookies would put a smile on Santa's face on Christmas eve. (They did in fact do just that!) These Disney Molasses Crackle Cookies are from Disney's Wilderness Lodge at Walt Disney World Resort. The cookies are sweet and a little bit spicy from the ground ginger, cinnamon, and cloves and perfect to have while watching a classic Disney film.

Douglas Shortbread Cookies
My friend Melanie made these absolutely phenomenal cookies. The brilliance of the recipe is the simplicity of ingredients. The term “short” in shortbread refers to the type of dough, which is very tender and high in fat. This makes for a particularly crumbly, melt-in-your-mouth cookie that is satisfying without being too rich. The recipe is from Fäviken: 4015 Days, Beginning to End, by Magnus Nilsson, who was the head chef at the legendary restaurant Fäviken in Sweden until it closed in December of 2019. The recipe came from the grandmother of his first employee, Douglas Tjärnhammar-Alm. You can read about these cookies on Bloomberg.
By the way, she told me to bring the leftovers to my Dad (yeah, right!).

The Bellini Cocktail
Nearly 30 years ago we spent our honeymoon in Venice—late fall so there were brilliant blue skies and daily flooding in the Piazza San Marco which meant that our first purchase as a married couple was matching Wellington boots. We made it our business to visit every bacari we could find—those small tucked away tapas bars unique to Venice—but we also made Harry’s Bar a regular stop. We had the good sense to buy these Bellini glasses from Harry’s to bring home—our second purchase as a married couple. Harry’s has a long list of house cocktails, including the Doge’s Cup (which is like an Italian Pimm’s Cup but made with red wine) but the real star of the show in the Bellini which is simply Prosecco and white peach purée. You can use yellow peaches or even frozen peaches but white peaches are what you get in a Harry’s Bar Bellini. You can add a drop or two of peach liqueur (we like Rinquinquin) but really it is the simplicity of the two ingredients and the seasonality of the fresh peaches that makes this drink so unique. If you order one Bellini at Harry's Bar in Venice, it will set you back about $25.

Black-and-White-and-Green Cookies
These Black-and-White-and-Green Cookies are a cross between the New York classic Black and White and Thin Mints. Fresh mint gives it a vibrant green hue and the flavor intensifies if you make it ahead.

Pan Banging Chocolate Chip Cookies
Anyone who’s been on social media in the last year has probably already seen Sarah Kieffer’s perfectly imperfect “pan-banging” chocolate chip cookies. As a cookie lover who errs on the chewy side, I was excited to try creating my own mesmerizing ripple effect (as well as the cheap thrill of slamming a sheet pan against a hot oven rack). What I wasn’t trying to do, however, was open my oven 5 - 6 times while the ambient temperature in my house was 90° F. Now that we are slowly (and I mean sloooowly) easing into fall here in Southern California, I thought I’d give these a try. Let me tell you, they are definitely worth the warm kitchen.

Mocha Latte Logs
When my husband and I lived in England my family was obsessed with McVities Cafe Noir Biscuits. They are crunchy coffee flavor biscuits with a digestive base. I've yet to find them in the US, so I decided to make these, which do taste like them and I must say do look like logs. These Mocha Latte Logs are very easy to make and really delicious.

Milk Chocolate Florentine Cookies
Milk Chocolate Florentine Cookies are so good. These lacy cookies allow a sneak of melted chocolate-y goodness that’s to come as well as an elegant air to a simple recipe. I find this is the perfect alternative to drab sugar cookies and a great way to enjoy not only the process, but the outcome.
