Pickapeppa BBQ Shrimp

Pickapeppa Sauce was invented by a 16 year old boy in Jamaica in 1921. The sauce is sweet, sour and mildly spicy. One traditional use of the sauce is to pour it over a block of cream cheese, to be spread on crackers. You’ve got to try this Pickapeppa BBQ Shrimp. Don’t ask why it’s called barbecued shrimp, when it’s not even barbecued. No one seems to know.  It’s a New Orleans favorite.

Patatas Bravas

Patatas bravas, also called patatas a la brava or papas bravas, is a dish native to Spain, often served as a tapas in bars. It can also be served as a side dish with grilled or roasted meat. I should have doubled the recipe, because it disappeared in a matter of seconds!

Cheddar and Caraway Cheese Straws

Caraway seeds have a warm, sweet and slightly peppery aroma, and have a distinctive earthy anise flavor. They pair perfectly with a strong white cheddar in these unique Cheddar and Caraway Cheese Straws. A great addition to any party!

Blistered Shishito Peppers with Browned Butter, Lemon and Parmesan

Usually, these are made with soy sauce and bonito flakes. This recipe for Blistered Shishito Peppers with Browned Butter, Lemon and Parmesan is a completely different way of serving them. About one out of every ten peppers is spicy. The person that gets the spicy one will have good luck!

Corn Tempura with Smokey Chipotle Aoïli

Corn Tempura with Smokey Chipotle Aoïli is a very delicious appetizer. Just be careful when you are deep frying for splattering fat. You want to keep a lid on it!

Marmite Popcorn

I happen to love snacks. In fact, if I could, I would eat snacks instead of real meals, but that would send the wrong message to my (now adult) children. One of my favorite snacks is from the UK called Twiglets. It's definitely an acquired taste. It's marmite covered twigs. Doesn't that sound appealing?! Since they are difficult to find here and rather expensive, this Marmite Popcorn fits the bill.

Baked Chicken Wings 2 Ways

Chicken Wings 2 Ways is a great appetizer for any party. Traditional chicken wings are pretty spicy. I added a non-spicy version. You can divide the recipe in half and make both to satisfy everyone. The key to crispy chicken wings is boiling them first. These seem counter-intuitive, but it works. Make sure you pat them dry before roasting. Moisture is the enemy of crispiness!
