Noodle Kugel

Yom Kippur is the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.  It is also known as the Day of Atonement.  It is observed with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services.

At the end of Yom Kippur, Jews traditionally share a joyful Break Fast meal with family and friends. The Yom Kippur Break Fast is generally a festive breakfast menu consisting of foods such as eggs, cheese, and bread.  Here is my favorite kugel recipe.  It’s not exactly dietetic!

Noodle Kugel

1 lb medium egg noodles, boiled
6 eggs
1 cup of sugar
3/4 lb of cream cheese
1/2 lb butter, melted (save 4 Tbs)
1 pint sour cream
1 cup milk
sprinkle cinnamon
2 cups crushed corn flakes

Beat eggs. Add sour cream. Add sugar. Melt butter and add with milk and cream cheese. Mix with noodles and cinnamon. Pour into buttered casserole dish (13 1/2 x9x1 3/4). Sprinkle with 2 cups crushed corn flakes mixed with 4 tablespoons sugar and 4 tablespoons melted butter. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

Bake at 325˚ for 1½ hours.
