I made these cheese straws the other day and they are to die for! Cheese straws are a staple in the south. This is the basic recipe, but if you want, you can get creative and add your own twist to them by adding your favorite fresh herbs or spices.
Mississippi Cheese Straws
Makes 60 – 70 straws
1 lb sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ cup butter, softened
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/8 tsp black pepper
Preheat oven to 375°.
Process all ingredients in a food processor for 30 seconds or until the mixture forms a ball.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface, to a ¼” thickness. Cut into 4” straws, 1/1” wide, and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes. Best when served directly out of the oven.
