These German Pork Chops and Sauerkraut and very easy to prepare. The addition of diced apples and caraway seeds really makes it. Sauerkraut is one of the healthiest, probiotic-rich, fermented foods around.

  • Prep: 15 mins
  • Cook: 40 mins
  • Yields: 4 Servings

Ingredients

4 center cut pork chops

1 pound sauerkraut, drained

1 large red apple, diced

1 onion, chopped

2 tablespoons brown sugar

½ tablespoon caraway seeds

Directions

1Preheat oven to 350° F.

2Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, add the onions, apple, brown sugar, and caraway seeds, sauté for about 5 minutes. Then add the sauerkraut and sauté for about 2 minutes. Place this mixture into a baking dish.

3Brown the pork chops on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Put the pork chops on top of the onion mixture in the baking dish. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.

4Bake in the preheated oven until the pork is no longer pink inside, about 30 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a chop should read 145° F.
