Hot Dogs in Puff Pastry

My brother David sent me a box from Omaha Steaks for my birthday last month and there were these jumbo hot dogs. Then I saw that Ina Garten made hot dogs wrapped in puff pastry, which really should be called Hot-dogs à la Pâte Feuilletée. I had no buns, but I did have and ALWAYS have frozen puff pastry. So of course, I made this for dinner because - Je t'adore hot dogs!

Falafel

I love falafel. When I lived in New York there was this guy with a falafel cart on the corner of 5th Avenue and 20th Street near my office. His falafel was phenomenal. The only problem was everyone in the office had to get it together because it had SO much garlic. I recently went to a Persian restaurant near my husband's office and had this wonderful falafel lunch.

Falafel is a deep-fried ball, or a flat or doughnut-shaped patty, made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. It's usually served in a pita, or wrapped in a flatbread. It can also be served over a bed of salad or pickled vegetables and drizzled with hot sauce or a tahini sauce.

Grilled Four-Cheese Sandwiches with Applewood Smoked Bacon, Heirloom Tomato, and Sun-Dried Tomato Aioli

Growing up in Indiana, I ate many grilled cheese sandwiches, which consisted of Velveeta and Wonder Bread. This classic sandwich is one forged in childhood memories. My palate has matured a bit and taken it up a notch or two with this recipe for Grilled Four-Cheese Sandwiches with Applewood Smoked Bacon, Heirloom Tomato, and Sun-Dried Tomato Aioli. There really is nothing more comforting than a good grilled cheese sandwich.

Grilled Raisin Bread Cheese Sandwiches with Gorgonzola, Mascarpone, and Asian Pears

Last Friday night a friend of ours took us to see Elton John's final tour called 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road'. I was transported to my bedroom in 1974, lying on green shag carpeting listening to his albums - over and over and over again. At 71 years old he still has it. It was absolutely fantastic - as in Captain... 
Anyway, it got me thinking about recipes he likes. Each year, the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party, which is the hottest ticket in Hollywood, is catered by Chef Wayne Elias and his partner Chris Diamond, owners of Crumble Catering/Rockwell Table & Stage. Most of the menu is updated every year to keep it fresh and exciting. However, the one item they keep on the menu every year (because it's Elton's favorite) is a Grilled Raisin Bread Cheese Sandwich with Gorgonzola, Mascarpone and Asian Pears. So I, of course, made it. It's delicious.

Shrimp Rolls

I absolutely love lobster rolls especially when I'm in New England. These shrimp rolls come in a close second. The only thing is you can not get the split top buns anywhere on the west coast. You can make them using hot dog buns or order the split top buns on Amazon here.

Coronation Chicken Salad

Coronation chicken was created in 1953, when renowned florist Constance Spry and cordon bleu chef Rosemary Hume catered for a banquet to celebrate the coronation of Elizabeth II. It is believed to be inspired by the 'Jubilee Chicken' created for George V's silver jubilee in 1935.

This Coronation Chicken Salad recipe is not the original. It’s really a curried chicken salad.

The original recipe is described as chicken, boned and coated in curry cream sauce, with, one end of each dish, a well-seasoned dressed salad of rice, green peas and pimentos. Here is the Cordon Bleu recipe.
